Most popular meditation techniques

Mind and thought control: This is one of the most popular methods of meditation techniques. In this procedure, people try to bring their thoughts under control and eventually try to concentrate on aspect of body function or some other topic that is relevant to their meditation. The difficulty with this procedure is the elimination of unwanted thoughts from the mind. This is difficult to achieve because human mind is filled with thoughts – some useful and other useless. People will first have to learn and understand the different types of thoughts and then try to eliminate these one by one until the mind is completely free of all other thoughts but the one that they intend to think about. This method increases the concentration levels and focusing capability of the mind.

Activity based meditation: This is also a popular method of meditation. In this procedure, the practitioners choose to do an activity that is of their interest. They keep repeating this activity again and again, thinking about each step of the process. This repetition and thought process helps them to concentrate on all the aspects of the activity and eliminate all other thoughts from the mind. Meditation techniques used in this method help people to increase their concentration levels and reduce their stress levels. The different types of activity meditations include Yoga, Chinese dance forms, mudra based meditation, etc. People who are not inclined to practice the traditional activities can choose any activity of their preference. For example, gardening can also be used as a meditation inducing activity.

Spiritual meditation: This is one of the advanced meditation techniques. In this procedure, people concentrate on their internal self. They do not place importance on activities or thought control procedures. Their focus is directed inwards. They try to experience their life force; they try to understand the purpose and meaning of their lives; they try to find out if they have succeeded in their lives, etc. This type of medication can be practiced only by very experienced practitioners as it requires high levels of concentration and focus. It is easy to get distracted while thinking about the inner self; the concept by itself is scary for some and boring for others. But, people who are successful in this type of meditation invariably reach a higher level of mental faculty and it is easy for them to perform day to day activities and work activities with maximum efficiency.
